Αποκατάσταση Βιομηχανικού Συγκροτήματος στο Πλωμάρι
The proposal aims, firstly, to reintroduce the industrial complex to the town of Plomari through the restoration of itself as well as of its relationship with the water. Second, it attempts to link it to the central square so that it can be accessed on rainy days, when the river flows. Finally, to redevelop the public space east and west of the buildings, to facilitate access and, of course, to restore and rehabilitate the two industrial shells acquiring them new and sustainable uses.
The site containing the two industrial complexes, prominent and self-referential, located on the town’s waterfront, with view on all four fronts has today an image of abandonment and deterioration. The two structures under study are in a state of ruins, while parts of them are still collapsing and therefore are in need of immediate reinforcement work. The area is an urban obstacle, repelling people instead of leading them towards the industrial complex.
The new uses of the two old industrial should create an accessible and multifunctional public space that will reflect the collective memory, for which it has always been a hyper-topical social collector. The uses selected for the Georgantelli’s complex concern a cinema and local products stores on the ground floor as well as an exhibition space-multiplex on the first floor. For the adjacent to the square Voulala’s complex restaurant and café activities are being proposed.
